Why horsetail is a problem in Penarth
On Penarth properties, horsetail roots reach two metres down, shrug off most garden weedkillers and push up through lawns, borders and block paving year after year. Penarth's Victorian seafront and Cardiff Bay interface sit on disturbed reclamation ground, and the old Penarth dock and railway siding beds remain a recurring source of knotweed along the foreshore.
