Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Yeovil
On Yeovil properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Yeovil's growth around its former glove-making and aviation industries left disturbed brownfield sites, and the River Yeo's banks running through the town continue to provide knotweed with damp, disturbed ground.
