Why giant hogweed is a problem in Tiverton
On Tiverton properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Tiverton's wool trade heritage along the River Exe and Grand Western Canal has left disused mill sites where knotweed spreads through the canal towpath's disturbed banks and old lace factory grounds.
