Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Llanelli
On Llanelli properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Llanelli's tinplate and copper-smelting past along the Loughor estuary left extensive brownfield land, and the Millennium Coastal Park works exposed fresh rhizome along reclaimed dock edges where knotweed now holds steady.
