Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Llanelli
On Llanelli properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Llanelli's tinplate and copper-smelting past along the Loughor estuary left extensive brownfield land, and the Millennium Coastal Park works exposed fresh rhizome along reclaimed dock edges where knotweed now holds steady.
