Why Japanese knotweed is a problem in Llanelli
On Llanelli properties, Japanese knotweed rhizome spreads several metres underground, exploits cracks in hard standing and drains, and can stall a mortgage offer or sale. Llanelli's tinplate and copper-smelting past along the Loughor estuary left extensive brownfield land, and the Millennium Coastal Park works exposed fresh rhizome along reclaimed dock edges where knotweed now holds steady.

How we treat Japanese knotweed in Llanelli
Treatment method
We use a three to five year stem-injection and foliar herbicide programme, or hybrid and full excavation with licensed off-site disposal where timescales are tight.
Best timing
Most effective late summer to early autumn, when the plant draws herbicide down into the rhizome.
Your legal position
Listed on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 — allowing it to spread to neighbouring land can bring a civil claim, and the cut material is controlled waste.
Local coverage
Llanelli and nearby Burry Port, Pembrey, Felinfoel.
