Why water primrose is a problem in Gosport
On Gosport properties, water primrose forms floating mats over ponds, lakes and slow drains, deoxygenating water and blocking flows. Around the harbour and the Haslar peninsula, Gosport's mix of gardens, riverbanks, railway corridors and development plots gives invasive and persistent weeds plenty of disturbed ground to colonise, and infestations regularly cross property boundaries across Hampshire.
