Why water primrose is a problem in Craigavon
On Craigavon properties, water primrose forms floating mats over ponds, lakes and slow drains, deoxygenating water and blocking flows. In Craigavon, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam spread along the Craigavon Lakes and its tributaries, where floods and riverbank works carry rhizome fragments downstream. Verges and green spaces around River Bann and Oxford Island, along with new housing on the edge of town towards Portadown and Lurgan, are where we most often find established stands.
